2) Your homework due today was to outline a solution to the puzzle we did in class, develop the beginnings of a plot from the fatal-attraction type conflict you thought of, and also to analyze the stories you looked at for homework previously. You can collect your work from my out drawer soon (possibly tomorrow if I have time).

3) Homework for today due on Tuesday is the show/tell assignment I gave you in class. You have the German professor Franks and the Thai student (whose name escapes me now). The two assignments were: (1) she's an undercover agent for the Thai FDA trying to find out something, and he's suspicious of her, and (2) she does something to impress him. These two need to be typed . Please print them, and also bring them on a flash drive so we can look at them in class.

4) The stories you need to read for this week are below:

The Lottery, by Shirley Jackson: Download the_lottery.doc

The Pool of the Black One, by R. E. Howard: Download the_pool_of_the_black_one.doc

The Red-Headed League, by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle: Download the_red.doc

For each of them, I want you to do the following:

A) Identify what kind of story it is. Then identify the main conflict

B) List the characters and their principal motivations

C) List the main events in the plot (look for points at which the main character's situation or motivation changes)

We may have a quiz on this on Tuesday! Be warned.
